| The songs and music on "Some Old and Some New," by The New Greener Grass, are as warm as a summer rain, bittersweet as first love, and lonesome as the mountain wind.
The gospel numbers on the album are an inspirational trip back in time to the country churches, where faith was alive and well and not just a word. The album features Frank Beam singing lead and playing his distinctive style of five-string banjo, Ralph Woody, one of the better mandolin players and harmony singers around, Terry Acuff, a superb guitarist and vocalist, and Van Carswell on bass fiddle. Carswell has developed into the band's style, having been with the band three years. The album also features "Faded Love" on the fiddle by Roger Ledford, a tribute to his father the late Junior Ledford, who played with Beam's former band, The Greener Grass. The band is grateful to a long-time friend, Dale Meyers, who plays the Dobro on the album and also recorded it. The album is a blend of new and traditional Bluegrass, which is what The New Greener Grass is about. The group has performed with such icons in Country Music and Bluegrass as Dolly Parton and Mac Wiseman, and entertained American troops on a USO tour during the Vietnam conflict. "Some Old and Some New" is truly a unique Bluegrass album. |
