Charles Edward Bristol was born in Burke County North Carolina on September 22, 1921 into a family of nine children. His grandparents were slaves. His family were farmers and owned two mules, so there was always plenty to eat, although the work was hard. Charlie's mother played the guitar and everyone sang.  She taught him how to play and he loved it from the start.
Charlie always liked playing the guitar better than work. It kept him in trouble but he got pretty good on that old guitar. Charlie was tall, lanky, and handsome as a boy.  He discovered girls, fighting, and white lightning at a young age.  He was pretty cocky and stubborn.  He never listened to his anyone's advice and never walked away from a fight.  It kept him in trouble most of his life! Charlie got the first guitar of his own when he was 19.  It didn't last long.  Someone got too friendly with one of Charlie's girlfriends and a fight ensued.  Charlie ended it with the guitar over his head!  End of a precious guitar!
Charlie's music is original and unorthodox.  He learned to play his unique style of guitar without outside influence.  His blues come from the soul and his music comes from real life happenings.  And Charlie B lived a wild, turbulent life! Charlie has entertained with his music since childhood.  He recently went on tour in Europe with a well known blues band.  He didn't care much for the airplane and needed a little "courage" to get on it.  But he was well received and really enjoyed himself.  He told me many stories, most of which I can't repeat here!
I have played harmonica in several blues festivals with him.  He never ceases to amaze me.  Even though he now has a pacemaker and many years behind him, most young men would do well to keep up with him!
The recordings are live, made on a simple PC microphone.  The quality is not high.  However, the style is unorthodox and the music is unique.  You will enjoy Charlie B!
